Powered by Swirl, Samsung Becomes First Major Consumer Electronics Brand to Embrace Indoor Mobile Location Technology for Enhanced User Experiences
October 10, 2017
BOSTON, MA– Samsung Electronics America, Inc., has deployed Swirl’s industry-leading Mobile Presence Marketing platform to support the immersive consumer experiences it delivers at its U.S. experiential marketing locations. With this deployment, Samsung becomes the first major consumer electronics brand to incorporate in-store mobile location technology in its ongoing brand marketing and merchandising efforts. Samsung is using Swirl’s software platform to deliver location-enabled mobile content and services at its branded properties, which include the Samsung 837 flagship location in New York City, the Samsung Care Truck, and Samsung Galaxy Studios in Dallas, Washington D.C., Chicago, Las Vegas and Los Angeles (reopening soon). The company plans to extend its branded mobile experiences to other locations by introducing the Swirl platform to leading retailers that carry Samsung products. Samsung products are sold in more than 38,000 retail locations throughout the US.
Samsung’s commitment to taking the world in imaginative new directions has been an integral driver of its product designs, with its latest smartphone, the Galaxy Note8, representing the most feature-rich Android phone ever created. Increasingly, these imaginative directions have extended to the company’s brand activation efforts. At the Samsung 837 store, current and prospective Android users are able to explore the Note8, before its public release, with hands-on photography workshops and walking tours that allow them to experience the newest camera technology and features for themselves. Other recent installations at Samsung 837 have featured exclusive Fashion Week events and movie screenings, career development discussions, and special access to virtual reality workshops that allow visitors to bring content to life with 360 degree 4K photo and video capabilities.
Samsung is using Swirl’s software to enable its field teams to take advantage of private digital location signals to more effectively engage with consumers at precise locations in the physical world. As these location signals have become embedded in a broad set of retail hardware devices including BLE beacons, WiFi access points, LED light fixtures and payment terminals, Samsung has turned to Swirl to unlock the data, measurement, marketing, merchandising, servicing and branding opportunities they enable. Samsung is using the Swirl platform to enable a variety of service and marketing applications tailored to each of its properties:
- Samsung 837 – At this technology playground and cultural destination in New York City, visitors are welcomed to the building with video tours, highlights of current exhibits and an introduction to the space – all delivered automatically to their smartphone as they arrive. Visitors also gain instant access to the schedule of concerts, workshops and special events at 837, along with the ability to RSVP for specific programs directly from their smartphone.
- Samsung Care Truck – By outfitting this roving service center with BLE beacons, Samsung is able to automatically alert opted-in consumers (through the Google Nearby notification service) whenever the Care truck is nearby. In addition to offering technical support, education and repair services, the truck also allows consumers to interact with the newest devices, earn rewards and take advantage of promotional giveaways.
- Samsung Galaxy Studios – With BLE beacons installed in and around the mall and retail shopping areas that surround their Studio locations, Samsung is able to make nearby shoppers aware of the 4D Gear VR Theatre, interactive art installations, customer care services and products that are available at these new retail experience locations.
“Being trusted to power location-enabled mobile experiences for Samsung and its retail partners is a great honor and validation of the platform that we have built,” said Hilmi Ozguc, CEO, Swirl. “Samsung has always been recognized as a technology and innovation leader, and Swirl is helping to bring the brand to life in powerful new ways. We look forward to continuing our efforts to bring more engaging in-store experiences to consumers, wherever Samsung products are sold.”
